On this day we will climb the peak of Batian (Batian) by the standard route from the north side. We’ll hit the road in the dark, around 4 or 5 in the morning, so we’ll need headlamps for the first few pitches.
The route goes along a wide gorge, along which we will climb about 7 pitches, no more difficult than level 5.7. After another easy climb we will reach the Amphitheater, a small rocky pool halfway up the route, where we can rest for a while. We should be there around 07:30. Above us will be the goal of our route – the towering rock Firmin’s Tower, where we will head after the rest. There are about 3 difficult pitches waiting for us here, all of them quite short, but with a negative slope.
After them – an easier way, after which – a few more pitches and, finally, we will find ourselves on the western ridge. From this point we will continue along an easy but still open section of rock, heading towards Shipton’s Notch, located on the crest of the summit. One more pitch and then grade 4 and easy grade 5 rocks will take us to the Batian top.
The descent from the summit will follow the same route, to Shipton’s camp before dusk. Dinner and rest will be waiting at the camp.
