Arrival of the group at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), meeting of the tour participants by the representative of the host and transfer to the hotel.
The hotel has everything you need for your comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, polite staff, swimming pool and internet.
In the evening, representatives of the host will hold a briefing with you and check your readiness for the ascent.
In the morning, a guide with an escort team will arrive at your hotel, get to know you and hold a briefing, then you will move to the entrance of the Kilimanjaro National Park – Machame Gate (1800 m).
After a short procedure for obtaining permission to visit the park and registering with the rescue service, the group will begin the ascent to the Machame camp (3010 m). The trekking route includes a transition through the rainforest, where tropical showers may occur, so it is recommended to bring not only a change of clothes, but also raincoats.
It will be your first day at this height, so it is highly recommended that you follow these instructions:
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol
• Drink 4 liters or more of water daily (better to drink little but often)
• If signs of altitude sickness appear, take a tablet of Diamox. Most climbers take Diamox in the morning, before the start of the ascent, which reduces the discomfort of mountain sickness. It is recommended to consult with your doctor about the presence of allergic reactions.
At night, you may experience an uncomfortable feeling of acclimatization: due to a decrease in breathing activity, oxygen is supplied even less than during the day, and because the height, the probability of nausea and headache increase. Therefore, be attentive to your condition and contact your guide when the first signs of altitude sickness appear.
Height change: Machame Gate (1800m) – Machame Camp (3010m)
Trekking distance: 11 km
Trekking time: 5-7 hours
After breakfast, you will begin your ascent to the second high-altitude camp of the Shira (3845 m), on this day you will leave the rainforest and panoramas of the Shira plateau will open for the first time. Physically, trekking is not too difficult, but you can feel the change in height, so pay attention to your condition and remember that choosing the right trekking pace plays an important role in climbing.
Upon arrival at the camp, you can have lunch and have some rest, after which you will have to make an acclimatization hike towards the Lava Tower camp, with a climb of 300 m, and then descend back to the Shira camp, where a hot dinner will be already prepared for you.
Note: The acclimatization exit is an easy trek with a small climb in order to speed up the acclimatization process. Take acclimatization trips very seriously, they will help increase the chances of successfully conquering the summit of Kilimanjaro and protect you from the consequences of height sickness.
